Taking strong measures in its fight against terrorism, the government has geared up its counter terrorism strategies.
Latest appointment of Syed Asif Ibrahim, former chief of Intelligence Bureau, as Special Envoy on Counter Terrorism and Extremism, is indication of such preparedness. Ibrahim who is considered an expert on terrorism and extremism, will report to National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and work from the National Security Council Secretariat.
The appointment comes amid growing ISIS influence and reports of ISIS recruitments in different parts of the country.

This month, three Mumbai youths who went missing, have been alleged to be fresh joiners of terror outfit Islamic State (IS) by Mumbai Police. An official of the Anti-Terrorism Squad also said they suspect that the three youths have been radicalized into joining the Islamic State. Three were identified as Ayaz Sultan (23), Mohsin Sheikh (26) and Wajid Sheikh (25), all residents of Malvani area in western suburb of Mumbai. Later the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad registered case against Ayaz Sultan under relevant sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for advocacy and support for ISIS.
In another incident, three youths, who are cousins in relation, Mohd Abdulla Basith, Maaz Hasan Farooq and Syed Omer Farooq Hussaini, were arrested from Hyderabad for allegedly planning to join jihadi terror groups, months after they were put under watch for being influenced by online ISIS propaganda. A joint team of J&K and Telangana police officials have been investigating the youths, and based on their interrogation it was reported that they were planning to meet separatist leader Asiya Andrabi to join jihadi terror groups.
Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary had earlier said in the Lok Sabha that the government has directed the intelligence and security agencies to identify potential recruits and keep them under surveillance.
