India's public sector Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) has invited responses by 29 September from overseas original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to form a joint venture (JV) to build 12 mine counter-measure vessels (MCMV) for INR328.40 billion (USD5.05 billion).

The expression of interest (EoI), released on 1 September, states that GSL will evaluate the OEMs' ability to design the MCMVs and transfer technology before issuing the shortlisted shipbuilders a request for proposals (RfP) in October.

A contract will be awarded by March 2016 and platform construction will start in 2018.

Delivery of the first MCMV is anticipated by March 2021 with the remaining 11 vessels completed by the end of 2026, the EoI declared.
