Advanced Torpedo Defence System (ATDS) - Indian Navy has got an indigenous decoy system that can divert under-water torpedo attacks on ships and submarines. Developed by DRDO's Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) and named as the Mareech, it detects and locates incoming torpedoes and applies countermeasures to protect naval platform against attack
The Defence Research and Development Organisation has launched new programmes for futuristic requirements and these products will come out in the next few years, K. Tamil Mani, Director General – Aeronautical Systems, DRDO, Ministry of Defence, said here on Saturday.
He told reporters after launching the UMS GT Lab that product development involves research and development and product demonstration.
In areas such as unmanned vehicles, lot of indigenously developed products have come in.
Today, India is moving towards self-sufficiency in areas such as unmanned vehicles.
“We have developed parachute systems, radar systems, etc.”
In the last decade, growth of aeronautical sector for Indian Air Force is high.
Indian developed products are now commercialised by the Government organisations or made at the Ordinance factories.
With private industries evincing interest it is likely that gradually production will go to the private sector too, he said.
UMS Technologies on Saturday launched UMS GT Lab (gas turbine laboratory).
It is a fully-equipped gas turbine laboratory system designed for students and comprises a 30 kg mini gas turbine fitted with sensors for measurement of pressure and temperature at various locations, thrust and fuel consumption.
This is an indigenously developed product that can be used by colleges and universities. The institutions now mostly import the turbine for the experiments.
