2 Pakistani Army Pilots Killed in Trainer Aircraft Crash

Islamabad: Two Pakistani Army pilots were killed today when their trainer aircraft crashed in Gujranwala district in Punjab province during a training mission.

Army spokesman Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa said the aircraft was on a training mission when it crashed in Punjab.

"Both the crew members, instructor pilot Major Azhar and trainee pilot Captain Ahmed lost their lives in the crash," Bajwa said.

Two officers of the Pakistan Army were killed Tuesday as a trainer aircraft of the Army Aviation Wing crashed near Gujranwala, ARY News reported

District Police Officer Rai Zameer said the armys Mushshak Trainer crashed near Chenab Bridge, some 100 kms from Lahore.

"Technical fault could be a reason behind the incident," he said.

The rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the bodies to the Combined Military Hospital Gujranwala district of Punjab.

The crash is the latest deadly accident to hit Pakistans military.

In November last year, a female pilot of Pakistan Air Force was killed when her trainer fighter jet crashed in Punjab province.

Earlier in August 2015, as many as 12 army personnel were killed when their helicopter crashed near Mansehra.

In another similar incident in May 2015, the ambassadors of Norway and Philippines and six others were killed when an army helicopter crashed in Naltar area of Gilgit.

Meanwhile, President Mamnoon Hussain has expressed grief over the death of two pilots killed in the plane crash.
