Jammu & Kashmir Female Terrorist Asiya Andrabi behind a Pakistani Flag
SRINAGAR: Members of the Asiya Andrabi-led separatist outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) hoisted Pakistani flags at several places in Srinagar on Wednesday, a day that India's neighbour celebrates as 'Pakistan Day'.
DeM party workers hoisted the flags at several places in the city including in Civil Lines and Lal Chowk , officials said.
Police later removed the flags.
Andrabi's party has been hoisting Pakistani flags every year on Pakistan Day and on Pakistan's Independence Day. Andrabi was booked last year under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act for unfurling the Pakistani flag.
It was on March 23 in 1940 that a mammoth gathering of Muslims at Minto Park in Lahore adopted a resolution that paved the way for the creation of a separate Pakistan out of India.
Pakistan has been inviting Kashmiri separatists every year to attend the 'Pakistan Day' function at its high commission in the national capital.
Pakistan's envoy to India Abdul Basit celebrated the event at the country's high commission in New Delhi on Wednesday. Hardline Kashmiri separatist Syed Ali Geelani and Andrabi were invited by Pakistan to attend the event.
"They have been coming to our receptions for years now, so this is not an issue," Basit said when asked about the invitation.
Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh represented the government at the Pakistan Day reception last year.
The meetings of Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders with Pakistani establishments have always raised eyebrows in New Delhi. In August last year, a controversy erupted over the proposed meeting between Pakistan's former national security adviser Sartaj Aziz and Hurriyat leaders ahead of NSA-level talks in India.
India had then advised Pakistan that it would not be appropriate for Aziz to meet with the Hurriyat representatives. Pakistan then called off the talks.
