
KARWAR: Defence minister Manohar Parikkar and US defence secretary Ashton Carter on Monday visited INS Kadamba naval base.
They visited INS Vikramaditya, the country's largest aircraft carrier at Karwar.Carter was briefed by Flag Officer (Karwar) Rear Admiral RJ Nadkarni on Project Seabird, the first phase of construction of the base.
Carter reportedly spent a few hours on Vikramaditya and appreciated India's `Make in India' concept. Sources said Parikkar and Carter discussed possible defence and trade cooperation between India and US, and the two countries will sign two pacts in New Delhi.
Prior to Carter's visit, the US under secretary (administration) also visited India and held discussions on various bilateral issues, including defence technology and trade initiatives. Parrikar and Carter will be holding a joint press conference in New Delhi on Tuesday, officials said.
Low-key Affair:
Carter's visit was so low-key that even the Uttara Kannada district administration was kept out of the loop and protocol was managed by the defence department.
